The Round Tower

The Round Tower

This corner between Castle Street and Lanesboro Street was always known as the Round Tower and is shown as a tower on the 1736 Essex map. Construction at the top and on the Eastern side seems to relate it to the Old Jail. Francis Plunket’s map shows what appears to be a structure of this kind close to here and may represent a medieval jail or a townhouse.
